The European Commission has, under the H2020 Program, brought together specialist expertise to form four pilot projects with the objective of connecting and sharing knowledge across multiple domains to develop a common cybersecurity strategy for Europe. ECHO (the European network of Cybersecurity centres and competence Hub for innovation and Operations) is one of these four projects.

The ECHO project delivers an organized and coordinated approach to improve the proactive cyber defence of the European Union, through effective multi-sector collaboration.
Project implementation period: 4 years (з 01.02.2019 по 28.02.2023)
The country coordinator and the only partner from Ukraine is National Aerospace University ”KhAI”. khai.edu
Partnership:
ECHO consortium consists of 30 partners from different fields and sectors including health, transport, manufacturing, ICT, education, research, telecom, energy, space, healthcare, defense & civil protection.

Project goals and objectives:
The strategic aim of the project is to develop, model, and demonstrate a network of cyber research and competence centers, with a center of research and competence at the hub.
National Aerospace University “KhAI” carries out intensive research in the field of technical and regulatory aspects of cybersecurity and safety on system and infrastructure levels.
Therefore, in the course of the ECHO project, KhAI will be mainly focused on multi-sector needs analysis, will contribute to the definition and implementation of inter-sector technology roadmaps & demonstration cases on cybersecurity, and will support the dissemination of the ECHO project results in EU and Ukraine.
KHAI will also be involved in the organization and participation in international conferences and workshops in the framework of the ECHO project.
Project directions:
The Central Competence Hub will serve as the focal point for the ECHO Multi-Sector Assessment Framework (MSAF) enabling multi-sector dependencies management. The MSAF refers to the analysis of challenges and opportunities derived from sector-specific use cases, transversal cybersecurity needs analysis, and the development of Inter-Sector Technology Roadmaps (ISTR) involving horizontal cybersecurity disciplines. The ISTRs will then be the subject of demonstration cases incorporating the involvement of inter-dependent industrial sectors.
Also, in the frame of the project, the ECHO Cyber-skills Framework will be created to provide the foundation for the development of cybersecurity education and training programs, including a common definition of transversal and inter-sector skills and qualifications needed by cybersecurity practitioners. Together with that, the ECHO Cybersecurity Certification Scheme will provide a sector-specific and inter-sector process for cybersecurity certification testing of new technologies and products resulting from the proposed technology roadmaps.
The project will develop and operate under an ECHO Governance Model, by which the efforts across the EU Network of Cybersecurity Competence Centres can be coordinated and optimized to provide lasting and sustainable excellence in cybersecurity skills development, research and experimentation, technology roadmaps development and certified security products for improved cybersecurity resilience.
